Sparta Recreation schedule of programs

    Sparta — Sparta Recreation is offering the following special programs in December: On Dec. 6 at 1 p.m., Santa arrives at Dykstra Park, a new location this year. There will be entertainment, a petting zoo, pony rides, crafts and free popcorn. Admission: Canned goods for food panty. If weather is inclement, the program will be held indoors at Mohawk Ave. School gym. On Dec. 12, Santa’s Ornament Workshop will run from 10 a.m. to noon. Santa’s elves will be busy at work showing participants how to make a variety of holiday ornaments. This is a family event, children must be accompanied by a parent. Admission is $6 per child. Letters to Santa - Beginning Dec. 1, Sparta youngsters can mail letters to 65 Main Street or drop them off in a special mailbox in the Recreation Department Office. Time permitting, Santa will write back. On Dec. 28 at 1 p.m., a showing of “Midnight At Normandy” - participants watch the science of electricity brought to life through a fascinating, entertaining and interesting story. For ages 5 to 12, cost is $10 per person. On Dec. 29 at 1 p.m., a live animal presentation designed to teach participants about snakes, lizards, turtles and crocodilians. Presented by Snakes-N-Scales and Turtle Tales. For ages 6 and up, cost is $8 per person. For all ages on Dec. 30 at 1 p.m., join the fun in Fantasy, Illusion & Magic, a magic show with lots of audience participation. $8 per person. After the magic show on Dec. 30, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., join Joe Fisher and learn some secrets of magic, an opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look and learn from a master magician. For those ages 6 to 12. Each child will receive their own bag of tricks, making them real magicians. Fee is $10.
