The Music Man at St. Catherine this weekend
Ringwood This weekend is your last chance to see the St. Catherine of Bologna Performing Arts Guild production of The Music Man at the Parish Center. The Music Man is directed by Leslie Silverman, with music direction by Chick Barnes and Eva Hajek. It is produced by Leslie Amarosa and Ted Hajek, and stars Bill Gaudelli as Harold Hill and Cheryl Krapohl as Marian the Librarian. The Music Man tells the story of traveling salesman Harold Hill and his visit to a small Iowa town on July 4, 1912 where he meets and falls in love with the willful, spinster librarian, Marian Paroo. With his fast-talking style, “Professor” Harold Hill convinces the town that unless they adopt his revolutionary music program, the youngsters of River City will be forever doomed. He gets the parents to buy instruments and expensive uniforms in order to form the River City Kids Band. Chaos ensues as Hill’s credentials are questioned and he is called upon to prove himself to the citizens of River City. The St. Catherine of Bologna Performing Arts Guild is a non-profit community theater organization under the sponsorship of St. Catherine of Bologna Parish in Ringwood. The Guild is non-denominational. It exists to promote cultural awareness and growth and to enhance community spirit through the performing arts. The Saint Catherine of Bologna Performing Arts Guild will be collecting donations from the audience after each performance of The Music Man for the Healthy Families program cofounded by Eat Local, Inc. and the Center for Food Action. This initiative enables local families in need to receive free fresh fruits and vegetables from The Ringwood Farmer’s Market to supplement the canned and prepackaged goods they receive from the Center for Food Action. The Guild will match a portion of the contribution made by the audience. Last year, the guild donated over $1,000 to the Center for Food Action. The combined contribution will provide the Healthy Families program with funds they desperately need to feed the hungry in our community.
