TransOptions is currently recruiting judges for the Junior Solar Sprints (JSS), its annual spring environmental education event for middle school students. This year’s competition will be held on May 19 to 22, with rain days scheduled for May 26 to 29. The Inter-city final competition will be held on June 1, with a rain date of June 3. Each challenge begins with judging at 8 a.m. and concludes with the awards ceremony about 1 p.m. JSS will be held at four venues in Warren, Sussex, Morris and Union Counties. Judges may volunteer for a single competition or for multiple locations. The team of judges evaluates student entries in five categories: Speed, Craftsmanship, Innovation, Technical Merit and Documentation Portfolio. Judges critique each team’s entry and assign scores that are tallied to determine first, second and third place winners. A finish line judge (for the speed category) is also needed. Those interested in being a JSS judge should call Cindy Reuther at 973-267-7600 or e-mail CReuther@TransOptions.org. Additional information is available at www.TransOptions.org.
