Vernon musicians put on musical show

    Vernon — The Friends of the Library, Dorothy E. Henry Branch, will present a musical program, “Classy and Classical Too,” performed by Barbara and J.B. Davis, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 19. The Davises are long-time residents of Vernon. They run a vocal studio out of their home and for years ran the New Opera Workshop. This past fall they were adjunct professors at William Paterson University. J.B. Davis is conductor of the Sussex County Community College Chorus and Barbara Davis teaches vocal music at the Sussex County Christian Home Schoolers Arts Program. Barbara Davis began her career with the Dallas Summer Musicals. She moved to New York, making her debut and touring as Zerlina in “Don Giovanni” with the Goldovsky Opera Theatre. In summer stock she appeared in “Carousel” with Howard Keel and “The Sound of Music” with Carole Lawrence. J.B. Davis made his debut as Zuniga in “Carmen” with the New York City Opera in 1961. Since then he has sung over 2,000 performances of 109 operatic roles with many opera companies. He is a stage director and has directed for many opera companies, including the Montclair Operata Club. The concert will take place in the Community Room of the library, Route 94, in Vernon. Admission is free with a reception to follow.
