| 29 Sep 2011 | 02:09

Spring season begins Jan. 20 Warwick - The Warwick Valley Chorale is pleased to announce the start of its spring 2009 season. The featured musical selection to be performed at this year’s spring concerts is Joseph Haydn’s “Mass in Time of War.” A variety of musical pieces by 20th century American composers will also be performed. The Warwick Valley Chorale is a 70-member musical ensemble. Free-admission concerts are presented each May and December in Warwick and surrounding communities. The Warwick Valley Chorale has been actively singing for 68 years, longer than any other choral group in Orange County. We are a true community chorale with members ranging in age from high school students to senior citizens. Singers of all abilities are invited to join us, and no auditions are required. Stanley Curtis, professor emeritus of vocal music at SUNY Orange, has been the chorale’s director since 1986. For the past 14 years, the group has also been fortunate to have the talented Gail Johnson as accompanist. Under the instruction and guidance of Curtis, the Warwick Valley chorale provides its audiences with intricate and emotive performances of major choral works as well as amusing, fun, and light-hearted renditions of popular music. The Warwick Valley Chorale has performed with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, the Rockland Symphony Orchestra, the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the New England Symphonic Ensemble, has performed more than a dozen times at New York’s Carnegie Hall, and has provided vocal backup for the Gatlin Brothers. The chorale has been invited to join elite touring choruses, and several of our singers have had opportunities to perform in various venues in Prague, Barcelona, Sydney, and Beijing. The first rehearsal for the Warwick Valley Chorale’s spring season will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Registration begins at 7 p.m. and rehearsal starts at 7:30 p.m. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. at the Warwick Reformed Church at 16 Maple Avenue in WarwickRegistrations will be taken through Feb. 3.
