Winter classes at Community Theater
Classes start Feb. 1; registration open Morristown Registration for The Community Theatre’s Winter Performing Arts Classes is now open. A variety of classes is available for children beginning at age 5 and through students age 18. Classes begin the week of Feb. 1 and run through May. Classes will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Theatre. Cost for classes ranges from $250-$600, depending on the length and type of the class. Registration forms can be mailed to The Community Theatre Performing Arts School, 100 South St. Morristown, NJ, 07960, or faxed to 973-455-1607. There is a 10 percent discount for two classes or two family members; 15 percent off for three or more classes. Limited scholarships are available based on need. An open house will be held on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at which parents and children may tour the facility, meet the instructors and ask questions about the program. New this year will be the school’s first ever adult class, a cabaret workshop for adults, leading to a public performance. The first workshop begins Jan. 29, 2010. A second workshop begins in March. The classes being offered are: Musical Theatre Broadway Kids: Ages 5-6 (two classes) Tuesdays 4 to 5 p.m. or Wednesdays 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. A fun introduction to musical theatre! Work on basic singing skills, movement, stage presence and acting. $250 Broadway Kids 2: Ages 7-8 (two classes) Mondays: 4 to 5 p.m. or Tuesdays 5 to 6 p.m. Young performers work on singing, dancing and acting skills while working toward an end of semester performance. $250 Musical Theatre Workshop - Junior Ages 9-12 (two classes) Mondays: 5 to 6:30 p.m. or Wednesdays 5:30 to 7 p.m. Musical theatre technique for the young triple-threat performer. $300 Teen Musical Theatre Workshop - Ages 12-18 Mondays: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Musical theatre workshop for the serious performer. Class focuses on song performance, scene study and sharpening dance skills while working on solos, duets and scenes from Broadway musicals. $300 Broadway Master Program - ages 14-18 Tuesdays: 8 to 9:30 p.m. For the accomplished teen performer. Work on advanced song performance, audition technique, monologue preparation and choreography. Great for repertoire building, school and college audition preparation. $300 New Cabaret Workshops for Adults Have you always wanted to sing in front of an audience? We are pleased to offer this exciting new workshop under the direction of two New York City cabaret professionals. Each seven-week workshop culminates in a Starlight Room cabaret performance on the last week. Wednesdays: 7 to 9 p.m. Session 1: Jan. 27 - March 10 Session 2: April 7 - May 19 Each session: $300 Saturday Programs Broadway Kids Saturday: Ages 7-10 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Have fun while working on musical theatre performance skills. This expanded workshop will include classes and workshops in singing, dancing and acting while rehearsing for a polished end of semester performance. $375 Saturday Musical Theatre Workshop: Ages 11-18 1 to 4 p.m. This exciting program covers many aspects of musical theatre performance while working toward a polished production. $475 Acting Classes Acting Kids: Ages 6-8 Tuesdays: 4 to 5 p.m. Have fun while learning the fundamentals of acting. Gain stage presence and basic acting technique through theatre games, improvisation and scenes. $250 Acting Workshop Junior: Ages 9-12 Tuesdays 5 to 6:30 p.m. Acting technique for the young performer. Work on acting skills, stage presence, character development and improvisation. $300 Acting Performance Workshop: Ages 13-18 Tuesdays 7 to 8:30 p.m. Learn good solid acting technique and gain a strong foundation while rehearsing a one act play to be performed at the end of the semester. $300 Improv Troupe: Ages 13 - 18 Wednesdays 7 to 8:30 p.m. If you like improvisation comedy, this workshop is for you. Work on improvisation technique, theatre games and exercises. The semester will culminate in a “Night at the Improv” performance. $300 Singing Technique Singing Kids - ages 7-10 Wednesdays 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. A great class for young singers to gain confidence and learn proper vocal technique. $250 Singers Workshop - ages 11-18 Wednesdays 5:30 to 7 p.m. This group voice class will work on proper vocal technique, song performance, harmony and ear training. Class will work toward an end of semester recital featuring solos and group numbers. $300 Private Voice Lessons The Performing Arts School offers a limited number of private lessons for students enrolled in a Performing Arts School class.
