Maverick Chambers died of a choking accident in April 2022, shortly before he turned 5 months old.

Since his death, his parents, Kim and Darrin, have been on mission is to raise awareness about choking emergency preparedness and to provide first-responders and schools with LifeVacs, a choking rescue device.

“We firmly believe that if one of the first-responders that came to our aid during our son’s emergency had access to a LifeVac, we would be telling a different story today,” they said.

Their nonprofit organization, Maverick’s Legacy, has provided LifeVacs to the police departments in Sparta and Newton, Newton First Aid Squad, Blue Ridge Rescue Squad, New Jersey State Police in Augusta and several school districts.

On March 2, the Chambers met with the Morris County EMS Alliance, supplying 90 ambulances and 10 additional first-responder vehicles with the lifesaving device.

“It is through the generosity of our supporters that we have been able to provide LifeVacs to this many agencies, and we hope to continue to make a difference.”

Maverick’s Legacy will hold a Spring Craft and Vendor Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 26 in the Richard’s Building at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta.

More than 70 vendors, two food trucks, face painting, and pictures with the Easter Bunny and Ella the Fairy are expected.

Proceeds from the event will fund the nonprofit.
