Woman charged in hit-and-run

Oxana Prokofyeva, 44, of Lake Hopatcong has been charged in connection with a motor vehicle accident June 28, Jefferson police said.

She was arrested Thursday, July 10 and taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility.

She was charged with third-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury, fourth-degree tampering with evidence, fourth-degree hindering apprehension and several motor vehicle offenses.

Earlier, Jefferson police said two pedestrians were struck by a motor vehicle that did not stop about 9:45 p.m. June 28 in Lake Hopatcong.

When officers arrived, they found a 43-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman in the driveway of 64 Brady Road. The man was taken to Morristown Medical Center with serious injuries. The woman had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
