Andrews completes cadet basic training at West Point

Sussex — Cadet Ayman Courtney Andrews of Sussex has completed cadet basic training at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. Andrews entered West Point on June 29 and has completed six weeks of CBT. Also referred to as “Beast Barracks,” one of the most challenging events a cadet will encounter over the course of their four years at the academy, officials said. Andrews, a Vernon Township High School graduate, and three time All Scholastic - All American swimmer for the Aqua Gems Swim Club in Warwick, N.Y. and 2009 New Jersey State Champion in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley, is currently a member of the Army Black Nights Swim Team.. He plans to graduate from West Point in 2013 and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. The initial military training program provides cadets with basic skills “to instill discipline, pride, cohesion, confidence and a high sense of duty to prepare them for entry into the Corps of Cadets,” said officials. Areas of summer instruction included first aid, mountaineering, hand grenades, rifle marksmanship and nuclear, biological, and chemical training.
