    Five area students recently received degrees from Champlain College in Burlington, Vt. They are: Newton residents Christopher Huarte and Blair Tino, Andover resident Andrew Joiner, Stanhope resident Tina Marusiak, Highland Lakes resident Brianna Cooper and Sussex resident Ryan Fitzpatrick. Amelia Hansen, a 2005 graduate of Pope John XXIII High School, recently earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from James Madison University. She graduated with distinguished honors after successfully completing the honors program. She is the daughter of Svend and Nancy Hansen of Sparta. Three area students recently graduated from Muhlenberg College. They are: Sussex resident Alyson Andresen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Andresen and graduate of Vernon Township High School, who graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy/Political Thought, and was named to the dean’s list; Sparta resident William Dalton, son of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Dalton and graduate of Sparta High School, who graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Finance; and Sparta resident Geoffrey Kelleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Kelleman and graduate of Sparta High School, who graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Russian Studies and Finance. . Sparta resident Marcelle Stoppay, a senior in Communication Media, Advertising and Public Relations, at Lock Haven University has been placed on the College of Arts and Science Dean’s List for the Spring Semester. She is also the recipient of the Dr. Saundra K. Hybels Scholarship, awarded to a senior student based on grade point average and documented commitment to the journalism profession. Andover resident Meaghan Egan received a Bachelor of Science in Health Policy and Management from Providence College. Sparta resident Elyse Lauren has been named to the dean’s list at Clarion University for the second semester of the 2008-09 academic year. She is a elementary education/special education major. Sparta resident Rebecca George, a senior geology and environmental studies major, was chosen as the recipient of the Daniel B. Sass Prize for Excellence in Geology during the Alfred University annual spring Honors Convocation. She is the daughter of Catherine Cmaylo of Sparta and is a graduate of Sparta High School. Franklin resident Erin Edwards was named to the spring semester dean’s list at Iowa Wesleyan College. Sparta resident Stephanie Anne Mora, recipient of a Sammartino Scholarship, recently graduated with a Master of the Arts in Teaching, from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Sarah E. Snider, daughter of Jeffrey and Diane Snider, of Sparta, recently graduated from Allegheny College. A graduate of Sparta High School, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Neuroscience and Psychology. While a student at Allegheny, Snider was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, Neuroscience Journal Club, and Psi Chi National Psychology Honors Society. Ted Koellhoffer, son of Bill and Denise Koellhoffer of Byram, was recently awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Bio Chemistry cum laude at from Boston College. He is a 2005 graduate of Lenape Valley Regional High School. He also received the Beckman Scholar Award , was named a Dean’s Scholar, was a member of the Cross and Crown Honor Society and was a Scholar of the College. He was also a member of the varsity crew team. He has accepted a position as a research lab assistant at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
