SPARTA — Daniel McIntyre of Boy Scout Troop 150, Sparta, was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a Boy Scouts of America Eagle Court of Honor ceremony held at the Sparta United Methodist Church. Patriots Path Council Troop 150 Scout leaders, fellow Scouts, family, friends and community members attended. Daniel achieved Eagle rank upon completion of 21 merit badges, serving as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, and troop guide. McIntyre’s project included mapping the public trails throughout several thousand acres of the Sparta Wildlife Management Area and working with the State Department of Environmental Protection to produce signs with topography maps to indicate, “You are here” on the trails. He also installed two large signs at the public parking lots at the Thomas Edison Monument and Ryker Lake. These trail maps are used to help people remain oriented and minimize the number of lost hikers in the woods. Daniel is a senior at Pope John XXIII High School. He is a captain on the varsity soccer team and a sprinter for the varsity track team. For the past two years Daniel has served as a Deacon in his church and presently teaches Sunday School. He is the son of Donna and Steve McIntyre of Sparta.
