Local Scouts earn awards, move up

SPARTA Township Girl Scouts had a bridging ceremony last month in which the girls were recognized for their achievements. Gold Award recipients included Dana Wagenhals, Alison Greco and Mary Kate O’Leary from Sparta Girl Scout Troop 802; Allison Rudolph, Kristine Rogers, Melina Ragnetti and Dana Parker from Sparta Girl Scout Troop 847; Amanda Garger from Sparta Girl Scout Troop 866 and Nisha Drummond and Lisa Petrin from Sparta Girl Scout Troop 723. To earn the Girl Scout Gold Award girls ages 14 and older must earn three Interest Projects and complete one Girl Scout focus book. They must earn their Gold Leadership Award, which consists of 30 hours in a leadership role. In addition, they must also earn their Girl Scout Career Award, which includes 40 hours work experience or exploration. Finally, the girls must identify a community need and spend at least 65 hours on the Gold Award project. Silver Award recipients were Maya Drummond, Elizabeth Frye and Lauren Petrin from Sparta GS Troop 723; Melissa Frignoca, Helen Walter-Cardinal and Becky Sim from Sparta GS Troop 768 and Tabitha Healy, Sarah Fabiano, Amanda Matrisciano, Erin Day, Lauren Hennighan and Kristin Stetzel from Sparta GS Troop 848. To earn the Girl Scout Silver Award girls ages 11 to 14 must earn four Interest Projects and complete two Girl Scout focus books. They must earn their Silver Leadership Award, which requires 15 hours in one or more leadership roles. The girls must also earn their Silver Career Award. Finally, the girls must spend a minimum of 40 hours working on a Silver Award Project that in some way impacts the community. Bronze Award recipients included Jessica Burns, Ani Chakamian, Erica Di Santi, Kaitlyn Lagasca, Nicole Regelski and Cassidy Walsh of Sparta GS Troop 372; Brooke Alvarez, Rebecca Cristillo, Hailey Lane, Kimberly Lennox, Kristen Petrucci, Kaitlyn Routsis, Valeris Russo and Meredith Squires from Sparta GS Troop 381; Elizabeth Appaluccio, Melissa Becker, Carissa Bally, Melanie Carbery, Hannah Chute, Taylor Gudenkauf, Melissa Hawk, Emily Johnson, Taylor Mayer, Claire Mundi, Emmy Silberstein and Judy Thomas from Sparta GS Troop 398; Hannah Brozowski, Alicen Di Piano, Theresa Downes, Ashley Fallone, Sydney Holycross, Emily Krapohl, Michelle Petrin, Chiara Savastano, Chloe Smith and Tyler Work from Sparta GS Troop 920; Meaghan Scotland of Sparta GS Troop 922 and Robyn Jacobs and Kaity Jacobs of Sparta GS Juliettes. To earn the Bronze Award, a Junior Girl Scout, must earn two badges related to the Bronze Award project they wish to complete. They have to complete one of the Girl Scout Signs found in the Junior Girl Scout Handbook. They must earn the Junior Aide Award, the Junior Girl Scout Leadership Award, or two of these badges Girl Scouting in the USA, Girl Scouting Around the World, Girl Scouting in My Future, Lead On. Finally, the girls must spend a minimum of 15 hours working on their Bronze Award Project.
