Vernon — Anthony Macerino, who recently retired from his post as superintendent of the Vernon School District, was given a lifetime achievement award from Winslow Therapeutic Riding Unlimited, based in Warwick, N.Y. A statement from Winslow pointed out that Macerino was superintendent in Vernon for 18 years. “While working with the Vernon School District, (Macerino) was known for creating positive environments and for establishing programs that met the needs of all students. “As superintendent, he took care of constructing a foundation of programs and policies that were to protect the children of Vernon, New Jersey. He encouraged principals to provide meaningful programs for children in order to assist them in making the right choices in today’s world.” Among his accomplishments in the district, the organization especially took note of: Plus Program for the High School and the ORION program for the Middle School, which “created environments that assisted those who are in high risk of failing or those who had phobias associated with schooling that created different venues to learn and socialize.”
