Manning completes training

Private 2nd Class Derek Manning of Highland Lakes, son of Bruce and Cathy Manning, has recently graduated from army basic training and advanced individual training while stationed at Ft. Benning, Ga. Manning, a 2008 graduate of Vernon Township High School, enlisted in the Army last August and completed 14 weeks of physical and mental training this past December. Manning was recognized as a high physical fitness awardee, received certification in combatives and completed rifle marksmanship where he achieved the level of sharpshooter. He will now attend Airborne School and then the Ranger Indoctrination Program.
