Lafayette Boy Scout Troop 850 honored its newest Eagle Scout, Matthew Robert McGuinness, at a special Eagle Court of Honor on Sept. 20. The Eagle Scout award is the highest honor given to a scout by the Boy Scouts of America. For his Eagle project he reset gravestones at the Lafayette Cemetery on Route 15 North, which is maintained by the Lafayette Preservation Foundation. This was a major undertaking since the stones were very old, fragile and heavy. During the project Matthew demonstrated his leadership skills and the ability to work around adverse conditions. Matthew is a graduate of Pope John XXIII High School in Sparta and will be continuing as an assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 850.
