    Austin E. Hovey, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014 at his residence. Born in Canisteo, New York, to the late Lyman and Lena (VanSkiver) Hovey, Austin had lived in Sussex County for most of his life. He was a self-employed farmer for many years before he became employed by Schering-Plough in Lafayette. After he retired from there, Austin worked at his son’s Auto Body Shop, Hovey’s Auto Body in Westtown, New York, for seven years and retired in 1978. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Austin enjoyed talking to people and was ready for some good conversation when he saw someone he knew or even a new face. To all the people that were in his life, Austin touched them in a positive way and he will be truly missed by many. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Elmer, Dale “Charlie,” and Marvin and his sister, Jean Houghtaling. Austin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean (Henderson); his son, John Hovey and his wife, Jeanette, of Huguenot, N.Y.; his two daughters, Judy Davis and her husband, Donald, of Slate Hill, New York, and Cindy Cecconello and her husband, Terry, of Slate Hill, New York; his brother, Fay Hovey of Greenwood, New York,; his grandchildren, John Hovey, Candace Hovey Gale, Jesse Cecconello, and Brian and Steven Davis; his great grandchildren, Paige, Christopher, Joshua, Justin, Ty, Khloe, and Landon; and his great great grandchildren, Kindal and Mason. Private cremation services were held at the convenience of the family.
