Calvin G. Rome

    Calvin G. Rome, 89 years, passed away at Newton Medical Center on Friday March 21, 2014. Born in Sussex, he was the son of the late Clarence and Margery (Judson) Rome. Mr. Rome has been a lifelong resident of Sussex County.

    Mr. Rome was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during WWII. He was a 60-year member of Pvt. Charles Auberger American Legion Post #213. He was a self-employed mason contractor and was very proud to say he built many of the county facilities here in Sussex County. He always enjoyed working and was a perfectionist in everything he did. Over his many years he also built, owned, and operated (over 40 years) “Ike's” car wash and gas on Route 23 in Wantage. In his spare time he was an avid hunter.

    In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Albert, Thomas and Pete Rome. He is survived by his beloved wife Florence (Russell) Rome of Sussex; his sons, Marty Rome and his wife, Pamela, of Wantage, and Dwight Rome of Wantage; A brother Stanley Rome of Bovina, N.Y., and a sister Mae Green of Winchester, Va; along with several nieces and nephews.

    Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service 10 a.m. on Tuesday March 25, 2014, at the Ferguson Funeral Home 27 Third St. Sussex. Interment with military honors to follow at North Hardyston Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday March 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. Pvt. Charles Auberger American Legion Post #213 services will be held on Monday during the visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory would be preferred and may be made to: Pvt.
