Doris 'Dode' Van Tassel

Doris “Dode” Van Tassel, 90 years old, died at her residence after a short illness on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014. Born to Horace and Mary Van Tassel in Newton, she has been a resident of the Clove Lake section of Sussex, most of her life.

Doris was known as the “Ice Cream Lady” at the Sussex-Wantage Middle school, where she worked for many years.

Doris was predeceased by her husband, William Van Tassel, Jr.(2004), a son, Billy C. Van Tassel(2013) and a brother, Charles Van Tassel(2013) and is the devoted mother in law of Sandra Van Tassel of Delhi, N.Y. Also survived by 2 grandnieces, 5 great grandnieces and many good friends and neighbors.

The family will receive their friends at Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third Street, Sussex, NJ on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 10 to noon. Funeral service will commence at noon. Interment to follow at Clove Cemetery, Wantage Twp. Memorial gifts to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38101-9908 would be appreciated.
