Edward W. Bond
Edward W. Bond, 83, died after a short illness at Hospice of New Jersey at St. Joseph’s in Wayne on Feb. 8, 2014. He had lived in Pequannock for 31 years before moving to Highland Lakes in 1996.
After serving two years in the US Marine Corps., Ed worked for various companies as a shipping and receiving manager. He was a volunteer fireman for 31 years for Pequannock Fire Co. No. 2 and was past president of the company for six years. He was a life member of the Fire Company and life member of the N.J. Exempt Fireman’s Association.
For many years, Ed played Santa Claus for the Fire Company’s children, the boy scouts and the children of Highland Lakes. He was a past member and elder of the Pequannock Reformed Church and more recently a member of the H.L. Christ Community Church.
Ed was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley (Handel). He was the proud father of 2 sons, Craig of Oak Ridge, and Gary and his wife, Carol, of Highland Lakes. Also survived by his sister, Jean Robertson of Toms River; his sister in law, Ruth Harley and her husband, Richard; his grandchildren, Sarah Schwarz and her husband, Shane, Nicole Vought and her husband, Clayton, Kristyn Riggs and her husband, Wil, Kelli Bond, Jake Bond and Melissa Bond; his great grandchildren, Chaz, Juliet and Evelyn; two nieces and one nephew.
Visiting hours are from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the First Reformed Church Cemetery, Pompton Plains.
