Frederick 'Jack' Skellenger
Frederick “Jack” Skellenger, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Kindred Hospital of New Jersey in Dover. Born on Aug. 24, 1935, in Franklin to the late Harry and Ethel Skellenger, Jack had lived in Sussex County all his life. He had served in the National Guard during the Korean War. Jack was employed as a foreman with the Sussex County Department of Public Works, where he worked for 30 years and retired in 1999. He was a member of the Sussex Fire Department since 1969 and was a former member of the Colesville Gun Club and the Virgin Acres Gun Club. He was predeceased by his first wife, Janet, in 1995; his great-grandson, Alex Skellenger, in 2009; his great-granddaughter, Brianna Mackerley in 2011; and his sisters, Joan and Sheila. Jack is survived by his wife, Rose; his son, Terry; his two daughters, Debra Gould of Sparrowbush, N.Y., and Becky Kinney of Montague; his grandchildren, Craig of Sussex, John and Michael of Sparrowbush, Sarah of Montague, and Grace of Wantage; four great grandchildren; and his sister, Marilyn Howell of Hamburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex, N.J. Interment will follow at Clove Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Sussex Fire Department services will be held on Sunday at 7:30 p.m..
