Hazel Ortt

Hazel Ortt, age 85, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at her home. Mrs. Ortt was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Embry) Shauger. She was a founding member of the Sussex Wesleyan Church, where she had belonged to for more than 50 years. She held prayer meetings and Bible Study at her home for more than 5 years. Mrs. Ortt loved art work and enjoyed painting. She also played the piano and violin and wrote poems. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest, in 2004 and her brothers, Herman Shauger and Forest Howard. Mrs. Ortt is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Prout and her husband, Tom, of Sussex and Sharon Space and her husband, William, of Jefferson; her brother, Thomas Shauger of Sussex; her sister, Mildred Smith of Sussex; her two grandchildren, Matthew Prout of Branchville and Ashley Prout of Sussex. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013 at the Hope Church, 1441 Glenwood Rd (Rt 565), Wantage. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
