Margaret E. (nee Akerstrom) Thomas of Andover Borough, N.J., passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice in Fredon. She was 90.
Daughter of the late Ernst and Mildred (Powers) Akerstrom, she was born on Nov. 2, 1930, at Briar Ridge Farms behind Perona Farms. She was a graduate of Newton High School, Class of 1948.
Prior to her retirement, Margaret worked as a controller for Sears and a Clerk for Selective Insurance. She was a member of the Andover United Methodist Church. Margaret was devoted to her family and spent many happy summers on Lake Wallenpaupack in Pennsylvania.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband, William R. Thomas; sister, Barbara Mills; brother, Ernest “Skip” Akerstrom; and great-grandson, Joshua Thomas.
She is survived by her children, Alan Thomas and his wife, Eileen, William E. Thomas and his wife, Pamela, David Thomas and his wife, Joanne, Lynn Delfing and her husband, William, and Scott Thomas and his wife, Claúdia; siblings, Mildred “Toots” Lynch, Neil Akerstrom, Sandra Akerstrom and Janice Lelak; grandchildren, Kevin Thomas, Paul (Katie) Thomas, Marc Thomas, Briana (Vincent) Paternoster, Christopher (Brandy) Thomas, William T. Delfing (Robert Benzing), Kristen (Thelonius) Sibblies, and Bryan Delfing; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Vincent, Eva, Miranda, Nathaniel, Sophia, Tiffany and Thelonius III; as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Visitation was held July 9 at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, Newton, N.J. A funeral service was held July 10 at the funeral home. Interment followed at Tranquility Cemetery in Green Township.
