Michael J. Accetta, 24, died Saturday June 25, 2016, at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown following the toughest fight ever fought against cystic fibrosis. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends. Michael was born in Newton on Nov. 3, 1991, and lived in Wantage Twp.
Michael was a 2010 graduate of High Point Regional High School and a 2012 graduate of Lincoln Technical Institute where he received his certification as an Automotive Technician. He worked as receiving manager for Worldwide Supply in Franklin and also owned RaceM Tinting.
Michael had a love for working on trucks or even anything with a motor, but especially enjoyed working on Ford vehicles and diesel engines. If you ever needed to find Michael, you could find him working in his garage.
He loved country music and was an avid fisherman and ATV rider and enjoyed the beach.
Michael was a selfless person and lived his life on his own terms. He never let his illness stop him from doing the things he enjoyed in life. He was quirky and his comedic ways made his friends and family laugh.
Michael was a hero to many and inspired everyone. He left behind a legacy of strength, perseverance and courage. Michael, most importantly, adored his family.
He is survived by his parents, Malina (Balinski) and David Bennett of Wantage; sisters, Maria Hagemann and her husband, William, of Wantage and Renee Accetta of Wantage; his nephew, Blake Hagemann, who brought him much joy and happiness; maternal grandparents, Nancy and Richard Zweier of Vernon and Michael and Evelyn Balinski of Vernon; paternal grandmother, Beverly Bennett of Little Falls; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and the love of his life, his girlfriend, Chelsea Sullivan of Wantage; his best friend, his dog Remi and his biological father, Michael Accetta. Michael was predeceased by a step-brother, Ryan Quinn.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 29, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third St. Sussex. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Wantage. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1-3 & 5-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Just Breath for Michael, 28 Coykendall Rd. Wantage, NJ 07461. Proceeds will go to a Scholarship Fund in Michael’s name at High Point Regional High School and to other individuals suffering with cystic fibrosis.
