Patricia Corbutt

Patricia Corbutt, a long-time resident of Highland Lakes, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Born in 1931 in Paris, France, she spent her first six years living in Nice at the Chateau d’Azur. She moved to the United States in 1937, residing for many years in Jersey City, N.J.
Patricia attended St. Aloysius Academy in Jersey City. She graduated as the salutatorian from Notre Dame College in Staten Island and then continued her education at Jersey City State College. She taught in the Jersey City Public School System before moving to Sussex County in 1971. Patricia then taught at Immaculate Conception Grammar School in Franklin, N.J., as well as substituting in Vernon Twp. Schools before changing careers in the early 1980’s. She worked for a number of years at GAF before retiring as Assistant Corporate Secretary from Stone & Webster Engineering, NYC, NY in 1996. Upon retirement, Patricia and her husband Paul enjoyed cruising and spending time with family, especially their seven grandchildren, Richard, Connor, Theresa, Liam, Maggie, Owen and Kieran. A devout Catholic, Patricia could be found every Sunday at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church in Highland Lakes, NJ, wheelchair and all. She had a wonderful smile that could light up a room and was a friend and surrogate mom to many.
Patricia is survived by her husband of 62 years, Paul J. Corbutt; daughter, Catherine Brennan and her husband, William of Middletown, N.Y., daughter Lillian Ryder and her husband, Richard of Ridgefield, N.J, daughter, Frances Rumsey of Highland Lakes, NJ, son, Paul G. Corbutt and his wife Veronica of Pompton Plains, NJ, her seven grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Private cremation services by Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, Vernon, NJ. A Celebration of Life and Memorial Mass will take place at a future date.
