A Sock hop Fundraiser for Katie’s House held Monday, May 4 at the Chatterbox Drive-In drew nearly 100 people, who danced and danced along to the oldies performed by live Doo Wop band Desire. Hors d’oeuvres were provided by Andre deWaal of Andre’s Restaurant in Newton and by Tim Harder of the Dining Room, the Mexican Place & the Pizza Place in Sparta. Ice cream sundaes were provided by Cliff’s Ice Cream in Roxbury. “The best part was figuring out what to wear, and the food, and the friends ... it was truly a delight!” said MaryAnne Choma, one of the attendees. Volunteers from the Interact Club at Newton High School were there decked out in 1950’s outfits to lend a hand. Allied Beverage donated the beer and wine for the event. “The band was so fantastic ... and then they donated back half of what they were supposed to be paid for the event,” said Tracey deWaal, co-chair of the event. Katie’s House is a Group Home and activity center for young adults with developmental disabilities, located in Newton. For more info on Katie’s House go to katieshouse.org.
