Vernon student nominated for military academies

VERNON — U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett (NJ-05) announced the nomination of Vernon High School student, Kevin Moran, to the U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Air Force Academy.

Moran, along with 30 others from the fifth district, was honored at a ceremony at Ramapo College, in Mahwah, on March 14.

In order to attend the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy, Moran had to be nominated by a congressman or a senator. The nomination does not guarantee entrance into the two academies.

Moran was interviewed by a committee of military and civic leaders who reviewed his application and recommended him to the Congressman.
