A bouquet of daisy dukes

Driving rains didn’t stop nearly 3,000 locals from visiting Franklin Sussex Auto Mall on Saturday, Aug. 22 for their second annual Hazzard County Fair. John Schneider, who starred in the role of Bo Duke on the “Dukes of Hazzard” TV show signed T-shirts, models of the show’s vehicle General Lee and posters throughout the day. A number of General Lee cars and Hazzard Sheriff cars were on display. The crowd also enjoyed free hot dogs and sodas with WSUS on hand spinning tunes. At the end of the day a Daisy Duke look-alike contest drew women from around the area to strut their stuff and notably one man. Schneider, who was one of the judges for the look-alike contest, and is from upstate New York, said, “I love Sussex County. The people are fantastic and the hospitality is exceptional. Rain or shine, people are out to have a good time. There’s a sense of community here.” The feeling is mutual. “We love Mr. Schneider here,” said Bill Snouffer, general manager of Franklin Sussex Auto Mall. “He is a great guy and one of the nicest gentlemen, who enjoys spending time with my customers.” Schneider said he is touched by how many fans still enjoy the show, especially young children.
