A momentous birthday

Snow postponed the celebration of Read Across America Day in Ellen Dambach’s second-grade class at Rolling Hills School. But the next day, more than 30 adult visitors showed up for the festivities. The day began with children eating green eggs and ham as they listened to a song with that title. The famous Dr. Seuss story was read aloud and other stories and poems were read, too. Students, parents, grandparents and aunts all sat on the floor in small groups to read Dr. Seuss books to each other. The wrap-up came as the crowd sang Happy Birthday to Theodore Giesel, Dr. Seuss, who would have been 105 years old on March 2. Two homemade birthday cakes fed the crowd. The one above and another featuring the Cat in the Hat.
