A race, some rain and a day of fun

Ogdensburg — Visitors and participants at Ogdensburg Day got up close and personal after the outdoor events moved into the firehouse to dodge the persistent rain Saturday. Other than the 5K run, which was held rain or shine, the athletic competitions and games were cancelled along with the planned parade and fireworks. Even the cold-blooded guests of honor of Rizzo’s Reptile Discovery show spent much of the time in their heated enclosures to avoid the cold and damp weather. Organizers were pleased that over 320 people registered for the 5K run, 100 more than last year. Approximately half the runners completed the course before the rain started. The 5K Run Approximately 320 entries 296 finishers 16:37.2 winning time Oldest: Bob Nicholson (81) of Sparta Youngest: Preston Peoples (8) of Lafayette Longest commute to the race: Jamie, Barbara and Kurt Miller, Nicole Vantassel of Kissimee, Fla.
