Animal Hospital of Sussex County welcomes new veterinary doctor
Sussex County The Animal Hospital of Sussex County, located in Augusta, announces the addition of Dr. Pamela Schott, D.V.M. to the experienced staff. Dr. Schott recently moved into the area from Hawthorne, N.J. She graduated from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell in 1987 and from the Cornell University College of Arts and Sciences, with a degree in Biochemistry. Her areas of expertise include avian and exotic medicine, including the medical and surgical treatment of pet birds, ferrets, rabbits, rodents, reptiles and other exotic pets. Dr. Schott spent 10 days working in New Orleans during the Katrina animal rescue effort last September. She has also been consulted by consumer advocates and state legislators reforming laws regulating the sales of puppies. “I’m very happy to be able to practice veterinary medicine in such beautiful, family-friendly surroundings,” states Dr. Schott. “I know I will enjoy offering Sussex County residents the best care for their pets.” Founded by Dr. Ted Spinks, V.M.D., in 1986, the Animal Hospital of Sussex County has been serving pets, farm stock, equine and exotic animals for the last twenty years. For those clients who cannot visit the Animal Hospital itself due to handling of large pets, great number of pets, or debilitating condition, these doctors make house calls. “Dr. Schott compliments our vastly experienced staff. Her expertise in exotic and avian medicine is an asset to Sussex County pet owners,” explains Dr. Spinks. Dr. Spinks, himself a native of Sussex County, graduated from Penn State University in only three years and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School of Medicine in 1981. He founded the Animal Hospital of Sussex County after gaining experience in both New York and Pennsylvania clinics. He is certified to detect hip dysphasia in dogs at an early age and has a special interest in feline and canine internal medicine Dr. Spinks has always found an interest in difficult medical and surgical cases. He has operated successfully on a complicated compound fracture in the rear leg of a male kangaroo and repaired a laceration on a tiger’s tail at the Space Farms Zoo. Dr. Steven Brasch, D.V.M. graduated from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has vast clinical experience with performance equines. Dr. Brasch has trained horses in Kentucky and he enjoys the clinical medical practice of horses, cattle, goats and other companion animals. Dr. Brasch is often called on site to local Sussex County farms. Dr. Shelley Parker completed her veterinary education at Ohio State University, after graduating from Cook College of Rutgers, and is also a trusted member of the hospital team. Her exemplary medical care has calmed many furred creatures and their owners at the hospital. Dr. Parker rescued a thoroughbred horse, Max, from a race track in Ohio and they are studying dressage, or trained dance-stepping for horses. The addition of Dr. Schott to the veterinary team gives the Animal Hospital of Sussex County a combined fifty six years of experience in canine, feline, equine, reptilian, avian and exotic animal medical care. Conveniently located at 169 Route 206 in Augusta, the Animal Hospital is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. For more information, visit the hospital’s Web site at www.caringvets.com or call 973-579-1155.
