ANDOVER — To raise community awareness about the tower heights for the proposed PSE&G Susquehanna-Roseland Reliability Project, two weather balloons were launched on Saturday, Oct. 10. They climbed to the heights of the proposed towers, one to 200 feet, the other at 195 feet. The existing towers are 100 feet in height. Motorists were alerted to the event by an electronic sign and many slowed down or stopped to stare as they were driving by. Committeeman Mike Lensak, who has been involved on the township’s behalf with the Coalition of Concerned Municipalities, set up the balloons along with Tom Hill and Dave Slaperud of Stop The Lines. The balloons were anchored to an informational table for Stop The Lines. “A person needs to see the Stop The Lines Web site for visual impact,” said Lensak. He referred to renditions of what the new towers are anticipated to look like. “People can’t moan after they are already up,” Lensak added. “This is the time to stop them.” “We are trying to make sure there is public awareness of just how obtrusive these lines will be,” said Mayor Bob Smith. “I don’t want to be surprised as by the JCP&L substation on Limecrest Road. We want to give people a chance to object.
