Chiropractor sponsors motorcycle run for eighth year, By Janet Redyke Hamburg — Dr. Peter Karas is on a mission to fill the Hamburg Fireman’s Pavilion to its 400-person capacity. Karas’s office, Chiropractic Health Center of Hamburg, is sponsoring its 8th annual Motorcycle Benefit Run on Sunday, Sept. 27. “The run will be a straight run, not a poker run, as in previous years,” Karas said. Beginning at the Pavilion, State Police will escort the bikers over High Point Mountain, into Port Jervis, N.Y., onto Route 97, a scenic highway along the Delaware River, then to Barryville, N.Y., to New York’s Cedar Rapids Inn and finally a return trip to the Fireman’s Pavilion for a barbecue and pig roast. The event benefits Deborah Heart and Lung Foundation. In addition, new this year, the New Jersey Daredevils Special Hockey team will use a portion of the funds to organize activities for children with autism and other disabilities and they will channel funds toward research on autism. In past years, the event has raised more than $5,000 and drawn motorcyclists from all over the region. “Bikers from as far as New York City have participated in the past, as well as bikers from Pennsylvania and across New Jersey,” Karas said. “The labor union of ironworkers has always been a major contributing influence at all our runs,” Karas added. And, supporters who don’t ride can come to the Fireman’s Pavilion at the end of the run, said Karas. “No bike? No problem! Join us anyway for the barbecue and pig roast and a great combination of causes,” he urged.
