Broadway at WVHS

Wallkill Valley High It wasn’t mischief night at Wallkill Valley High on Oct. 30. It was Broadway Night a night filled with energetic numbers from shows ranging from “Legally Blonde” to “Les Miserables.” Christine Molnar, now going on her fourth year teaching at Wallkill as the choir director, was the mastermind behind this event. It began three years ago as a smaller event held in the cafeteria with a cabaret feel. Last year and this year, the show has blossomed to a larger production held in the auditorium involving set pieces and sound systems. Broadway Night doesn’t just provide high-quality entertainment to its audience, it also gives the actors, singers and dancers a thrill. And there’s also a surprise. Traditionally, this is when the directors of the show reveal what Wallkill’s spring musical will be. The announcement this year: This March Wallkill will present “Damn Yankees.” The show will be directed by Christine Molnar; Carolyn Swayze will be assistant director. The pair, with the help of Kim Jegutzki, performed a humorous skit announcing the musical and they sang “Heart” from the show. All in all, Broadway Night brought some 20 duets and solo performers to the stage, ending with a finale put on by an all-girl group singing and dancing “All that Jazz.”
