Challenge is on: Turn off the television

Hamburg — Students at Hamburg School have voluntarily signed on for the upcoming challenge of Turn-off TV Weeks, April 23 to May 14. The school will join thousands of schools, libraries and community groups worldwide in a coordinated effort to encourage millions of people to turn off their TVs, computers and all electronic screens. The goal is to use that time to read, be more physically active, converse, think, create and “do” rather than “view.” In preparation for the “Go-Unplugged 2009” turn-off challenge, activities and incentives have been planned by area businesses, including family passes from the Sussex County Y to participants and their families, discounted tickets to Skylands Iceworld, a season pass from Mountain Creek Water Park for a grand prize winner. Area libraries will hold a Cinco de Mayo party and family game nights.
