In a story that started on page one last week about heroin use in Sussex County, the article indicated that “some of the purest dope in the country” is sold in Highland Lakes, Vernon Township. In fact, the reference was to New Jersey, not Vernon. Vernon Township’s Police Chief Roy Wherry pointed out that this distinction belongs to the greater New York/New Jersey region (not Highland Lakes or Vernon Township in particular). The New York/New Jersey region ping-pongs back and forth with the greater Philadelphia region, as the port region with the country’s purest heroin, according to Sussex County Prosecutor Thomas Reed.
