Council rebuffs lawsuit

Vernon Township Council passed a resolution calling a lawsuit brought against the township “frivolous.” The suit, filed on June 19 by Victor Marotta, a former Vernon mayor, charges that the council improperly appointed Paul Emilius Jr. to the seat left vacant by Glenn McLaughlin. Because they feel the lawsuit is without merit, Council members are asking the Special Litigation Council, which defends municipalities against lawsuits, to seek sanctions, including “reasonable costs and attorneys’ fees incurred by the Township in defending the Lawsuit if plaintiff fails to withdraw his verified complaint and accompanying pleadings.”
