January 17 Stephanie Villarreal, 19, of Hamburg, pleaded guilty to possession of heroin. She admitted to possessing two bags of heroin following a motor vehicle stop by Officer Snyder in Franklin on May 28, 2005. She is scheduled for sentencing on Feb. 6. January 20 John Space, 22, of Wantage, was sentenced to four years in state prison. He pleaded guilty on Dec. 19 to violating probation. Space had been placed on probation on Dec. 19, 2003, for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, theft and unlawful taking of a means of conveyance. He violated probation by failing to attend substance abuse treatment, failure to attend AA/NA meetings and failure to report to his probation officer. Andrew Rosenfeld, 21, of Hopatcong, was sentenced to three years in state prison, $1,524 in fines and a loss of driver’s license for one year. He pleaded guilty on Dec. 5 to possession of cocaine and to driving while intoxicated. Rosenfeld was arrested for driving while intoxicated by Byram Police Officer Daniel DeWald on Sept. 30, and was found to be in possession of two small bags of cocaine. Elizabeth Dadas, 36, of Rockaway, was sentenced to two years probation, two days credit for time served in jail, $1,205 in fines and a six-month loss of driver’s license. Dadas pleaded guilty on Dec. 5 to prescription fraud. She admitted altering a prescription for Ativan to read 90 pills when it was prescribed for 60. The offense occurred on July 8, 2005, in Hopatcong. January 23 Robin Devries, 35, of Highland Lakes, pleaded guilty to theft. On Jan. 3 she took a debit card belonging to her then roommate and used it to make various purchases without the cardholder’s knowledge or consent. Sentencing is anticipated for March 10. Peter P. Filak, 55, of Hopatcong, pleaded guilty to forgery. Between Jan. 1, 2004, and Dec. 31, 2004, Filak ordered magazine subscriptions and miscellaneous merchandise in the name of another person. Sentencing is anticipated for March 10. Kareem J. Barber, 21, of Rockaway, pleaded guilty to giving false information to law enforcement. On Nov. 18, in Vernon, he told Vernon police officers that he had been abducted in Dover at knife point, was forced to go to a condominium complex in Vernon, and was then robbed by his assailants. He later told police he had made the whole story up. Sentencing is anticipated for March 10. Georgene DiBenedetto, 48, of Franklin, pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and methadone. DiBenedetto was stopped for speeding and arrested for driving while intoxicated. Officer Kevin Nevin Mattessich of the Franklin Police Dept. found her to be in possession of two bags of heroin and a bottle of liquid methadone. She is scheduled for sentencing on March 10. Shawn Matthew, 27, of Vernon, pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and driving while suspended. The car he was driving was stopped by Vernon Police Officer Keith Curry on July 29, 2005. It was discovered that the defendant was driving while his license was suspended. Matthew was arrested on two outstanding warrants. Two bags of heroin were found in his vehicle. He is scheduled for sentencing on March 10. January 24 Douglas Aigen, 39, of Vernon, was sentenced to four years in N.J. State Prison, to be served concurrently to a term he is presently serving for crimes committed in Bergen and Middlesex counties. He must pay restitution in the amount of $3,810.89 to two victims. Aigen pleaded guilty on Jan. 23 to theft and theft of a cell phone. On March 26, 2004, his then employer sent him to pick up furniture with a store truck and $1,100 cash, and he did not return. His employer contacted police the following day. Aigen was arrested on outstanding warrants and extradited to New Jersey for prosecution.
