Hardyston — The Township School Board held a special meeting on Thursday, Jan. 27, to push forward a state grant application to assist with repairs at the elementary school. The grant, which was due by the end of the month, is mainly aimed at getting funds for renovations to the front entrance of the building to put it in compliance with requirements set forth by the ADA — Americans with Disabilities act. The front stairs would be replaced and a ramp added. Other projects the grant may cover include replacing the remaining vinyl asbestos floor tile, a new expansion tank for the boilers and replacement of some of the exterior doors. All of the projects are estimated to cost $159,971, according to School Board Administrator James Sekelsky. The state funding would cover 40 percent of the costs and the remainder would be paid from the district’s capital reserve account. If the grant is approved, Sekelsky said he anticipates that work would start by July and be completed for the new school year. — Jennifer Knocha
