    Oct. 30 At approximately 2 a.m., Patrolman Nevin J. Mattessich stopped a motor vehicle in Franklin for several motor vehicle violations. Further investigation led to the arrest of Marcus Babcock, 23, of Franklin for driving while intoxicated. He was issued summons for DWI, speeding, failure to signal, careless driving, failure to maintain a lane and failure to wear a seatbelt. Babcock is scheduled to appear in Franklin Municipal Court on Nov. 9. Oct. 31 At approximately 9:40 p.m., Patrolmen Nevin J. Mattessich and Gregory Michael Cugliari and Shift Supervisor Carl Douma responded to the area of 65-71 Main Street for a reported disturbance. Once on scene, Patrolman Douma attempted to place Matthew Davenport under arrest for disorderly conduct after he was found to be yelling profanity and throwing a mountain bike against a building. Davenport resisted arrest and it was at this time that Jacob DeGroat lunged on Patrolman Douma and assaulted him. After a brief struggle, officers were able to detain both individuals and secure them. Patrolman Douma was treated at Saint Clare’s Hospital for a shoulder injury as a result of the assault. Patrolman Mattessich charged DeGroat with aggravated assault on a Police Officer with injury, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He was lodged in the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail with no 10 percent option. Davenport was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He was lodged in the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail. Both DeGroat and Davenport are scheduled to appear in Franklin Municipal Court on Nov. 9. Nov. 1 At approximately 2:55 a.m. Patrolmen Cugliari and Mattessich responded to Ginter Street for a reported disturbance. Once on scene Cugliari was advised by Allen T. Strack, 22, of Franklin that there was no problem and he was unaware of any disturbance in the immediate area. The two officers continued to investigate and check for a disturbance. It was at this time that Strack again emerged and aggressively approached the officers, now in full Army fatigues. Officers’ reports revealed Strack was yelling profanity to and about the officers. They further found him to be acting disorderly and disrupting the peace. Strack was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. He was released a short time later and is scheduled to appear in Franklin Municipal Court on Nov. 9 to answer the charge of disorderly conduct.
