Free computer literacy training available at county college

    Newton — Free computer literacy training is being offered through a grant from the NJ Consortium of Community Colleges/New Jersey Department of Labor. Highlights include: • Providing critical skills to low wage workers to improve job performance • No wage contribution is required during training (off business hours) • Classes at Sussex County Community College • Convenient evening schedule • Training is provided free ($5 refundable registration fee is required) Course requirements: • Participants must be employed (part-time or full-time) 30 hours or more per week • Multiple employers are acceptable • Participants must provide personal and employer information • Participants must agree to share their information with NJ DOLWD • Participants pay a $5 reservation fee which is refunded upon course completion • Register for one course or all three sections Limited registration available. Courses will run Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6 to 9 p.m., beginning on Nov. 27 and ending Dec. 20, and will cover the following content areas: Windows/Operating Systems (8 hours) This course is designed for the beginner computer user. Learn how to find your way around the personal computer. You will learn: keyboarding, using the mouse, parts of the computer, PC concepts and the use of Windows XP, and how to manage files and folders. Internet (8 hours) Learn how to use popular search engines to find what you want on the Internet, and navigate the World Wide Web. You will also learn the difference between dial-up vs. DSL, and how to find your favorite sites time and time again. Word Processing (8 hours) This hands-on course will teach you how to create, edit, and format a document in Microsoft Word. You’ll learn how to use the templates that come with Word and change them so that they are personalized for you, use the formatting tools to change fonts, add bold face and italics for emphasis, and check a document for spelling errors.
