Free program educates seniors

    SUSSEX — The Wellness Initiative for Senior Education Program is offering a variety of healthy aging programs beginning Tuesday, July 28 at the Sussex United Methodist Church. The program begins at 10:15 a.m., and is open to any Sussex County resident, 60 or older. Sessions are also scheduled for Aug. 4, 11, 18 , 25 and Sept. 1. Participants will learn about the aging process and how to make healthy lifestyle choices; discuss risk factors and behaviors older adults should avoid to stay healthy; examine how alcohol, prescription medications and over-the-counter medications affect seniors differently and how they can avoid problems; and learn how to use simple tools to help them feel empowered about health and the health care they receive. Free breakfast will be served at each lesson, and all program participants will be eligible to receive gift certificates and other free giveaways. This program is funded by County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services, Sussex Wantage Municipal Alliance and Center for Prevention and Counseling. Pre-registration is required.
