Fun to connect to our teen

My wife and I had a lot of fun with the “Text your teen like a pro” article that ran in the Dec. 24 issue. My daughter got a new phone for Christmas similar to the one pictured in the article. She is 14 and we are now letting her text, with limits and the promise to maintain her school work. My wife and I sent her a few text messages using the advice and abbreviations from the article. My daughter was very surprised about seeing our newly learned skills and we all had a good laugh. As much as I am opposed to excessive texting, this experience showed me the importance of connecting and communicating with my daughter in ways that relate to her interests.
