Get ready to run...or walk

The Franklin Historical Society will hold its 4th Annual Zinctown Historic Preservation 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, June 27 as the kickoff event for Franklin Day. The event begins with 7:30 a.m. registration at the Franklin Heritage Museum at 95 Main Street. The 5K Run starts at 9 a.m. Elite systems of Clifton will again time the 5K event, with trophies awarded to the three top male and female winners. The Walk will follow at 9:15 a.m. Individual walkers must be at least 7 years old to participate. A special family entry rate of $10 is provided to encourage families to join in the walk. Preservation matters Proceeds from the event will be used to further the restoration of the Edison Schoolhouse/Hungarian Church, which has been relocated to the Main Street center. The building has recently been set on a foundation on its new location, and the efforts to restore the exterior are continuing. The building has been included in NJN’s special coverage on its Web site as part of its series “Our Vanishing Past” and will also be included in National Historic Preservation Month’s coverage of historic buildings in danger of demolition and loss. “This Place Matters” is the theme of National Historic Preservation’s efforts to preserve historic structures nationwide, and can be accessed at www.preservationnation.org.
