    Two arrested for being under influence after traffic stop On Monday, April 6 at 8:52 p.m., a 1997 Nissan that was being operated by Gregory M. Skellenger. 21, of Hardyston, was stopped on Orchard Street for several motor vehicle violations. After a roadside investigation, Skellenger and his passenger, Alexander D. Robinson, 19, of Hamburg, were both arrested for being under the influence of drugs. Skellenger has been charged with maintenance of lamps, failure to inspect, failure to wear a seatbelt, careless driving, failure to keep right, operating a vehicle without owner’s consent, unlicensed driver, drug-impaired DWI, DWI in a school zone and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. Robinson was charged with being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. Both were released pending appearances in the Hamburg Municipal Court. Patrolman David McNulty investigated the incident. Three car motor vehicle accident on Route 23 On Monday, April 6 at 10:03 a.m., a 1998 Nissan that was being operated by Jessica Delarosa, 17, of Hamburg, was stopped in traffic on Route 23 just north of Governor Haines Street. A 2003 Honda that was being operated by Diane L. Paine, 58, of Hardyston, was stopped in traffic behind Delarosa. Paine’s vehicle was struck from behind by a 2003 Volkswagen that was being operated by Wayne S. Schneider, 57, of Kinnelon, which caused Paine’s vehicle to strike the rear of Delarosa’s. Paine had a complaint of pain to her face from the collision, however, she refused transportation to the hospital by Hamburg EMS, Delarosa was transported to St. Clare’s in Sussex by Hamburg EMS for precautionary measures, though she was uninjured at the scene. Scheneider has been issued a summons for careless driving and is scheduled to appear in the Hamburg Municipal Court on April 16 at 6 p.m. Sgt. Erik Aronson investigated the collision. Weapons charges filed after shooting a homemade weapon On Saturday, April 4 at 4:07 p.m., Hamburg Police were dispatched to a report of a person firing a “potato gun” outside of a residence on Holly Drive. Investigation revealed that Jason A. Verkaik, 20, of Hamburg, possessed a homemade gun constructed out of PVC material and that he was discharging tennis balls powered by aerosol combustion in a residential neighborhood. Verkaik has been charged with possession of an unlawful weapon and disorderly conduct. He is scheduled to appear in the Hamburg Municipal Court on April 16 at 6:00 p.m. Patrolman Andrew Chase investigated the incident. Three charged with trespassing at former Plastoid factory On Friday, April 3 at 11:32 p.m., Hamburg Police were dispatched to a report of trespassers at the former Plastoid factory, located on Gingerbread Castle Road. Upon arrival, three trespassers were discovered on the property. Nicholas T. Ward, 18, of Sussex, along with Andre R. Febus and Johnathan J. Floyd, both 18, of Vernon, were all charged with defiant trespassing. All were issued complaint summonses and are scheduled to appear in the Hamburg Municipal Court on April 16 at 6 p.m. Patrolman John Barrett investigated the incident.
