Harvest House seeks donations

Sussex — Harvest House will participate in the Feinstein Foundation’s $1 Million Challenge to fight hunger. Since 1998, the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation of Rhode Island has been helping food banks, emergency food programs, and other non-profit anti-hunger organizations boost their fundraising efforts through its annual Feinstein Million Dollar Challenge. The foundation will divide its own $1 million proportionately between all non-profit anti-hunger groups that report the funds that they raise during the challenge, between March 1 and April 30. Donations to Harvest House during that period will be counted in the challenge. These donations can include cash, checks and food items (valued at $1 per pound). The greater the donations received during this time frame as a result of the challenge, the more funds from the Feinstein $1 Million Challenge Harvest House will receive. Harvest House began with the establishment of the Vernon Township High School Hunger Project in September 1997. Students saw the need for a soup kitchen in the area and wanted to do something about it. After three years of research and hard work, the first hot meal was served in October 2000. The First Baptist Church of Sussex offered space in the church and Harvest House found a home. The community lunch program currently serves 40 to 50 meals daily and depends on community support to continue operation. Donations can be mailed to: Harvest House, P.O. Box 374, Glenwood, NJ 07418.
