Hardyston — The Sussex County YMCA will celebrate Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 18, from 1 to 4 p.m., at its Hardyston location, at 15 Wits End Road. The day is designed to offer tips and tools to help families work toward building healthier lifestyles together and introduce the community to programs at the YMCA that build healthy children. In addition to the many fun and informational activities the YMCA has had in the past, this year they will introduce even more exciting activities including a kickball game with teams of community leaders and elected officials and refereed by teenagers from the YMCA’s Teen Leaders Club. “A healthy lifestyle needs to be installed in children at a young age. We are all aware that obesity rates have sky rocketed in our country, resulting in a subsequent increase in chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease,” said Sussex County YMCA’s Executive Director David Carcieri. “This year’s Healthy Kids Day will help educate parents in our community on what they can do to put their children on the right track early on.” The YMCA has joined with a number of local health organizations as part of the Sussex County Partnership for Healthy Adolescents, a program of the Center for Prevention and Counseling. For more information on the day’s events and times, call the YMCA’s Welcome Center at 973-209-9622 or visit www.sussexcountyymca.org.
