High Point students play Lincoln Center

Wantage Seniors Katie Dispenziere and Yenddie Lin have been selected to play “Polonaise” by Hoffman at Lincoln Center on Saturday, Dec. 5. The duo, Katie on clarinet, and Yenddie on piano, won a competition for the Cecilian Music Club. As winners, the duo is able to perform at one of New York City’s most prestigious venues, Lincoln Center. Yenddie, who studies piano with Ruth Kotik, a member of Piano Teachers Society of America, has been playing for 12 years and has played at numerous venues in New York City including: Zankel Hall and Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Madison Library for the Suburban Music Club Invitational, Alice Tully Hall Lincoln Center and Steinway Hall Gallery. Despite her claim that it’s easier to perform as a younger child, Yenddie added, “I’d have to say my favorite part of performing is the gratification and rush you get.” Besides her solo performances, Yenddie is also a member of High Point Jazz Band, its concert choir and the chamber singers. Yenddie and Katie have been playing together for a year and performed at Carnegie Hall this past spring after winning a competition held by the Piano Teachers Society of America. Katie, who studies clarinet with Rick Summers, has been playing for six years. “I have been in band since the fourth grade,” said Katie. “I play clarinet and I have always enjoyed it.” Katie is a member of High Point Jazz Band and has performed with Sussex County Honor Band, North Jersey Area Band and the New Jersey Region Band. As for the future, after high school the duo intends to continue their involvement with music on a recreational and personal level. Katie plans to attend the University of Delaware to study Spanish education. Yenddie intends to apply to a liberal arts program and may minor in music.
Performing is better as a child no nerves; when you are older it’s much more about success.” Yenddie Lin
