High school students volunteer for KEEP program

Vernon Peer leaders at Vernon Township High School are now stretching their wings and mentoring younger children enrolled in the NJ After 3 KEEP program at the Cedar Mountain School every Wednesday afternoon. Under the supervision of the NJA3 KEEP staff the PRIDE (Peers Rejoicing in a Drug-free Environment) students assist with homework, play games, do arts and craft projects, play musical instruments and participate in sports with the young boys and girls. The NJ After 3 KEEP program in Vernon encompasses a comprehensive after-school program that includes homework assistance and a wide range of activities from cartooning to science fun, from physical fitness to guitar lessons, from speed stacking to computer technology. Every student from kindergarten through 4th grade may participate in the program offered at both Walnut Ridge and Cedar Mountain Primary Schools at a cost of $75 per month. If there is more than one child in the family, then each subsequent child’s fee is $25 each month. Space in the program is limited this year and registration will be accepted on a first come/first served basis. As with every KEEP program, financial assistance for childcare is available to every family in need. For information about KEEP or any of its programs, call 973-383-2213 or visit www.keepkids.org.
