NEWTON - The Newton Memorial Hospital Foundation recently made its annual $50,000 donation to Sussex County Community College, which helps cover expenses of the college’s nursing program not covered by tuition and fees. This year’s contribution marked a total of $400,000 donated to SCCC’s Nursing Program since 2001. Newton Memorial and SCCC created a partnership in 2001 in response to nationwide nursing shortages, also being felt at the hospital. Since 2001, the program has grown exponentially and Newton Memorial now has access to a strong local pool of qualified nurses from which to hire. Last year, the hospital hired six of the 15 graduating students.
