How to relax at school

Looking like miniature car washes, two dry water Aqua Massage machines de-stressed students at Sussex County Community College Monday. Collette Fleischmann and Jack Burress, both of Ohio, programmed the machines for five-minute sessions. “The machine uses 10 gallons of water, heated to 90 degrees,” said Fleischmann. “The pulse rate of the water streams can be adjusted from gentle to a vigorous massage.” The massaging spray nozzles move back and forth over the customer. The moving machinery and more importantly, the water, is contained in the transparent cover of the machine. A flexible liner over the customer keeps the water in and the person dry. “We prefer to use distilled water to eliminate deposits on the inside of the machine,” said Fleishmann. “When moving the machines between locations in cold temperatures we have to drain the water to prevent freezing.” Then they have to refill the machines with tap water. Finding relief from the tension of upcoming final exams and term papers, a steady stream of students took advantage of the relaxation break sponsored by the college’s Student Activities Office. “I felt good,” said student Phouc Bui of Vernon. “It was so relaxing.”
